Accounting is the field of study that involves the summarizing, analyzing and reporting of economic activities of an entity over a given time period. In simpler terms, accounting is the language of business. The accounting process ends in the production of a set of financial statements that summarizes a company’s operation, financial performance and cash flows to key internal and external stakeholders. For internal users, it primarily provides information for managers to make informed and intelligent decisions to succeed in a competitive business environment. For external users, it communicates a company’s credit worthiness to lending institutions and legal compliance to regulators and tax authorities.

Why Study Accounting?

Given the dynamic nature of business environment, every organization requires the skills of an accountant. Regardless of the size of a business organization, the need to maintain financial records has become more complex than before due to the increasing demand for proper corporate governance and changes in regulations associated with tax laws. Therefore, persons in both private and public sectors seek professional training in accounting to develop essential competencies to create and audit financial records. In addition, the multidisciplinary branches of accounting enable majors to develop critical thinking, problem solving, technological and interpersonal skills necessary to compete in each respective business industry.
