Anthropology
This makes anthropology a holistic field of study through which to understand our species. Traditionally, anthropology is an umbrella of 4 subfields: social-cultural anthropology, archaeological, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.
Why Study Anthropology
Anthropologists are called upon more and more to apply their perspectives and methodology to finding solutions. Through an applied approach solutions can be found for various contexts and situations. From public health to marketing and business, to rural development, anthropology provides a lens through which to understand the full extent and complexity of cultures.
Anthropology empowers and prepares students to embrace the diversity and complexity of our ever-changing world. Students develop a sense of social and personal responsibility while developing intellectual and practical skills like critical thinking, communication, knowledge-application and problem-solving that are transferrable across professions.

Anthropology at Galen
Galen University is the only tertiary level institution that offers Anthropology as a bachelor’s degree program. Within this program, we focus on Socio-cultural Anthropology, Biological Anthropology and Archaeology. Students have various opportunities to immerse themselves within these areas, working with research experts in the field. Whether it is excavating at one of the many archaeological sites, visiting different indigenous communities, analysing skeletal remains, or looking at alternative health practices, Galen University’s Anthropology program will expose you to the endless possibilities of the discipline.
Students are encouraged to make this program as multi-disciplinary as possible by choosing a minor from various other complementary programs, such as economics, marketing, environmental science, criminal justice or international business. Through the exposure of different disciplines, the Anthropology student expands their knowledgebase, which can allow them to access a variety of professions.
Our Club
We are very proud of our Anthropology Club. All students are encouraged to be part of this fun and engaging group. The Club promotes the rich and diverse story of the human experience beyond the classroom by conducted numerous outreach projects in communities and schools through the celebration of International Anthropology Day and Archaeology Day each year. It also hosts various ‘on-campus’ events, such as Los Finados, to educate the Galen community about the various culturally important celebrations. In addition, members raise funds so they can explore our culturally-rich region.
