Boles holds B. S. and M. S. degrees in Biology from University of Southern Mississippi and a Ph. D. in Environmental Science from Jackson State University. He has been a field biologist with US Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station, an intern with the US Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC, the Entomologist Senior and State Shellfish Survey Officer with Mississippi State Department of Health, Director of the Hidden Valley Institute for Environmental Studies in the Mountain Pine Ridge, full-time faculty in the University of Belize Natural Resource Management Program, adjunct faculty for Galen University Environmental Science Program, an environmental consultant, an international field course instructor, and Provost at Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. He continues to consult on rapid watershed assessment projects, participate in aquatic macroinvertebrate studies, promote riparian and wetland forest protection and restoration, and work with community groups involved in conservation and management. Interests include canoeing, snorkeling, hiking, aquatic plants (currently), fiction writing, and service work.
