Dr. Kristcha DeGuerre serves as the Coordinator of the Master of Social Work program, a dedicated mental health counselor, and lecturer at Galen University. Holding a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the University at Albany’s School of Social Welfare, her specialization encompasses mental health, gender issues, and gang involvement in Belize.
With a background as a mental health counselor in Belize with the Ministry of Human Development, Dr. DeGuerre focused on aiding youth associated with gangs. She has also contributed significantly to outpatient counseling services in Belize City, Belmopan, and San Ignacio, addressing a broad spectrum of mental health issues.
Currently a mental health counselor and lecturer at Galen University, Dr. DeGuerre takes pride in being a Galen Eagle and upholds a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Recognizing the importance of creating a safe and empathetic counseling space, she operates from a multicultural perspective, welcoming students from all walks of life. Driven by the belief that individuals are inherently resilient and capable of healing, she encourages students to embrace their passions for social work through active learning.
In her role as the MSW Coordinator, Dr. DeGuerre is dedicated to supporting students in developing their enthusiasm for social work. As a lecturer, her goal is to ensure that students not only acquire the necessary competencies and skill sets but also leave her class feeling heard and valued. Ultimately, she aspires for her students to gain the knowledge and tools needed to make a positive impact and contribute to a better world.
