Galen University Hosts Annual Flag Raising Ceremony
As Belize’s 38th Independence Day approaches, Galen University celebrated its annual Flag Raising Ceremony to commemorate the September celebrations. This year, the event was accompanied by a detachment from the Belize Defence Force Second Battalion Infantry. The Second Battalion Infantry is based and operated in Cayo District, Belizario Camp. They performed the Guard of Honour Parade to initiate the day’s activities and officially raised the Belizean flag during the National Anthem.
The ceremony proceeded by welcoming Dr. Dorian Barrow, Dean of the Faculty of Education, who presented this year’s welcome address. Dr. Barrow’s speech inspired the Galen Eagles to continue working for the betterment of our country. “Galen University is not oblivious to the fact that with unity there is strength; and greatness is accomplished when there is togetherness. My fellow Galen Eagles, we must seize the opportunity of this Independence anniversary to work towards greater national unity” Barrow said.
The celebration continued by welcoming a past Galen graduate, the vibrant Ms. Renata Samuels who was this year’s guest speaker. Ms. Samuels conveyed her love for her country and encouraged our students about the importance of living a patriotic life. Finally, the ceremony featured two performances by our very own Galen Eagles. Mr. Kyraan Gabourel, a dynamic poet who presented two originals: ‘Belizean Pride’ and ‘The Revolution nuh wa be streamlive’, and Ms. Sheree Clark who sang a spirited rendition of “Welcome to Belize.”
