If you were at Sacred Heart Auditorium Monday night you got the chance to see a variety of special moments. Two of Belize’s finest young talents went toe to toe in Galens Kevin Brown and SHC Jamie Carbajal. You saw both teams combine to score 34 points (SHC 19-GU 15) in the first quarter. In the 1 st quarter they combined to hit on 7 three-point shots. Then they combined for 11 points (GU 6-SHC 5) in the 2 nd quarter. Zero three-point shots were made by either team in the 2 nd quarter. You saw two of Galen starters sent to the bench with foul trouble in the 3 rd quarter. With 4:51 seconds left Raul Roches was sent to the bench with 4 fouls and Galen trailing 32-27. Then the improbable, Lisani Lambey fouled out with :45 seconds left in the 3 rd quarter sending him to the bench for the rest of the evening. So the Eagles trailed by 42-35 heading into the 4 th quarter. One starter has fouled out, the other will play the 4 th quarter with 4 fouls. Expect the unexpected.
Jamie Carbajal got SHC off to a blazing start by scoring the teams first 14 points of the night. Carbajal hit on 3 three point shots in the opening stanza. Kevin brown hit on 2 three point shots as he netted 8 points for the Eagles as SHC got off to a great start leading 19-15.
The 2 nd quarter was quite the opposite. Neither team shot the ball well as both teams were held to single digits in the 2 nd quarter. Galen outscored SHC 6- 5 and trailed at the half 24-21.
Things got wild in the 3 rd quarter where foul trouble caught up with Galen and Carbajal once again got red hot dropping in 8 points in the quarter to give him 22 points after 3 quarters of play. Antwon McFadzean also chipped in with 6pts in the quarter to push the SHC lead to 7 points 42-35. Five different Eagles scored for Galen in the 3 rd quarter.
The Scorpions were sensing to closeout the 4 th quarter to a victory and to force Fridays night game into a winner take all game. Galens Kevin Brown had second thoughts. Brown opened the 4 th quarter by scoring his teams first 8 points to give the Eagles their first lead of the night 43-42. Brown buried back to back three pointers to put the Eagles up. SHC came right back on a Jarret Davis floater to take back the lead 44-43 with 3:30 left. The Eagles came right back with Raul Roches driving layup to put Galen back on top with 3 minutes left. The Eagles got a stop and after a Bryton Codd jump hook shot the Eagles took their largest lead in the game 47-44. The never say die Scorpions came right back with another Jarret Davis jumper to cut Galens lead to 1. Raul Roches then found a wide open Codd for easy 2 point shot to give the Eagles a 49-46 lead. Kevin Brown then made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch and Roman Alvarez made 2 Free Throws with 9.6 seconds left to give Galen a 5 point lead to ice the game for the Galen Eagles.
SHC was led by Jamie Carbajal with 25 points including 4 three point shots. Antwon McFadzean chipped in with 9 points. Kevin Brown led the way once again with a game high 27 points including 4 three point shots. Roman Alvarez chipped in with 8 points. The Eagles will once again take on SHC this Friday at Sacred Heart Auditorium. Tipoff is slated for 7PM
