Diploma Programs

College graduates, junior college transfer students, and high school graduates can enroll in these programs.

Candidates entering the diploma programs can expect to complete the program in one year.  

Galen University’s Diploma in Secondary Education will prepare secondary school teachers to be content area specialists. This diploma program provides teachers with the opportunity to become specialist in more than one content area.

The Galen Diploma programs prepare in-service teachers to meet the requirements to earn a full license to teach as prescribed by the Ministry of Education. These programs are fully online and are designed to support competent, ethically, and critically reflective applicants. Candidates entering these programs can expect to complete their diplomas in 1 year. These programs are approved by the Ministry of Education, and upon completion, graduates from this program will qualify as content area specialist in the field of specialization at the secondary level.

Admission Requirements for students doing the Diploma in the Content Areas:

• Applicants to any of these diploma programs will have a B.Ed. (i.e. in Secondary Education) but do not have the necessary content knowledge for the subject area that they teach in.

Admission Requirements for Students doing the Diploma in Pedagogy:

• Applicants to the Diploma in Pedagogy must have a B.Sc. in any of the teaching content areas.

The programs range from 30-36 credit hours and are fully aligned with the associate degree programs in English, Math, Physics, Business Administration, Social Science, and Computer Science offered at the tertiary level institutions in Belize. Students transferring into the program with an associate degree in English, Math, Physics, Business Administration, Social Science, and Computer Science gets all their courses transferred and can complete any of the diploma programs in a content field in about 3 semesters. These programs are fully online programs offered in the evenings from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Galen University’s Diploma Programs in Secondary Education is accredited by Belize’s Board of Teacher Education and can be used to support Galen University graduates’ applications for licensure in the field of specialization and for salary upgrades.
