New Student Orientation January 2024

Orientation at Galen University is where your journey begins with us. It’s your first step into our community, giving you a glimpse into the values we hold dear. As you step into our Eagle Family, this experience offers insights into the opportunities and responsibilities integral to being a part of our vibrant community. During Orientation, you’ll find yourself getting settled while meeting peer mentors, advisors, faculty, and staff members who are all dedicated to your success. Advising

In your advising session, you’ll engage in meaningful conversations about your educational objectives, program direction, and life ambitions with a faculty advisor tailored to your specific degree program. This advisor will play a crucial role in helping you choose the right courses for your first semester at Galen. It’s important to note that advising is a compulsory step for every new student.

You will receive an invitation for an advising session via your personal email address. These sessions are conducted virtually through Google Meets and typically span 30 minutes. It’s important to regularly monitor your email and respond swiftly to your advisor’s communications. For a productive advising session, please have your academic pathway ready and clearly mark the courses recommended for enrollment. These courses will be utilized during the Registration process on the 18th of December.

Advising sessions are scheduled for December 13th and 14th, 2023

For students who enroll at Galen University after the standard admission period, Late Advising will take place on January 3rd and 4th, 2024.

How do I locate my Academic Pathway?

Your academic pathway lists all the courses you are required to take for your degree program. Your pathway is sent to you via email to the email address you provided to the Admissions Department. You are required to have your academic pathway available during Advising and Registration.

Registering for Classes

During the registration process, you’ll enroll in the courses scheduled for your first semester at Galen University. These courses align with your selections made during advising sessions with your assigned advisor.

Registration will take place during the Central Farm Campus Orientation on December 18, 2023. Our staff will assist you in navigating the student gateway to select your classes. It’s mandatory to have a personal laptop or tablet for registration. Completion of Registration by noon is essential to ensure access to Moodle.

For students who enroll at Galen University after the standard admission period, Late Registration will take place on January 5th, 2024 at the Central Farm Campus.

Logging into Moodle

At Galen University, our primary platforms for online teaching sessions are Moodle and Blackboard Collaborate. Students are expected to be adept at using these tools. Moodle serves as the hub for accessing course materials like outlines and readings, as well as participating in assessments such as assignments, forums, and quizzes. Familiarizing yourself with Moodle ensures you have seamless access to essential resources and engagement in assessments crucial for your academic progress.

Logging into Moodle will take place during the Central Farm Campus Orientation on December 18th, 2023. Our staff will assist you in familiarizing yourself with Moodle and all the tools required for your classes. It’s mandatory to have a personal laptop or tablet for Logging into Moodle. 

For students who enroll at Galen University after the standard admission period, Logging into Moodle will take place on January 5th, 2024 at the Central Farm Campus.

Galen University Email Address

Initial communication, including email appointments for advising, will be sent to the email address you provided to the Galen University Admissions Department. Please check that email address regularly from email communication concerning orientation.

Galen University Email Address

Your Galen University email address will be used to access your classes, grades, and to communicate with other students, faculty, and staff. You are expected to check your Galen email daily. The credentials for your email address are provided by the Admissions Department upon acceptance to Galen University. 

You will activate your email address during the Central Farm Campus Orientation on the 18th of December 2023. 

For students who enroll at Galen University after the standard admission period, you will activate your email on January 5th, 2024 at the Central Farm Campus.

Student Mailing List

Once you have successfully activated your Galen University email account, you will be added to the student mailing list. You are responsible for reading all email communications sent to you. The Records Department, Finance Department, Student Affairs Department, and the Student Government regularly send emails concerning important deadlines, dates, and events. 

Orientation Activities for Spring 2024

Orientation (18th December 2023 | 5th January 2024) 

Orientation will be held at the Galen University Central Farm Campus at Mile 62 on the George Price Highway. 

Orientation begins at 8:00 am promptly. An early start is crucial to ensure that you have completed registration before midday (12:00 Noon). Orientation is mandatory for all new students.

Transportation

The Galen University Central Farm Campus is located at Mile 62 on the George Price Highway in the Cayo District. Galen University is accessible by public transportation from all major towns and Districts. 

For those residing in Northern Belize, the first bus from Corozal arrives at Galen University at 7:30 am and is utilized by many students. The bus returns at 3:30 pm in the evenings. 

For individuals in Belize City and Belmopan, a Westline bus departs the Belize City terminal at 5:00 am and stops in Belmopan at 6:30 am to pick up passengers. It then passes by Galen University around 7:20 am. The return trips are scheduled at 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.

Meals

Come and enjoy a variety of tasty meals and a lively atmosphere at The Perch, Galen University Cafeteria. The Perch offers an array of delicious and budget-friendly food options. Indulge in a diverse selection, including favorites like rice and beans, burgers, assorted fried foods, fresh salads, natural juices, and much more.

 

Student Financing

After you have successfully registered for your courses, a bill is automatically generated and sent to you. You will receive this bill via email to your Galen University email address 1 – 2 business days after you have registered. 

Your bill will be sent to you by your student finance officer. You can communicate directly with your student finance officer for the duration of your time at Galen University. 


What is the cost of my entire degree program?

The Finance Department will be able to provide you with the total cost of your degree program after you have received your official pathway from the Records Department.

Registrar’s Office

The role of the Registrar’s Office is to verify & evaluate official transcripts. Additionally, they arrange class scheduling, facilitate registration, maintain academic records, and track your academic progress for graduation. The Registrar’s Office also interprets the handbook of academic policies for students, lecturers, and others.

Your Academic Pathway

Your academic pathway lists all the courses you are required to take for your degree program. Your pathway is sent to you via email to the email address you provided to the Admissions Department. You are required to have your academic pathway available during Advising and Registration.

Transfer Credits

The Registrar’s Office is responsible for auditing your official transcripts and generating an academic pathway with your transfer credits if applicable. Please note that transfer credits do not apply to high school students!

Proof of Enrollment

The Registrar’s Office is responsible for maintaining all academic records. They provide confirmation of a student’s enrollment at Galen University. If you require proof of your status as a student, please fill out the ‘Letters Request Form’, and Select ‘Confirmation Letter’. The completed form should be submitted to the Registrar’s Office at records@galen.edu.bz

Technical Assistance

IT support team assists with troubleshooting hardware and software issues and resolving connectivity problems.
