Galen University Writing Center

Our Vision

To be an active writing support center for all Galen students writing across the different disciplines and genres. To empower student writers with the skills to adapt their writing to different contexts, and illuminating for them the use of writing to access meta-cognition and civil empowerment.

Our Mission

To serve Galen University students and instructors in the pre-writing and writing process; adapting our services as needed to ensure we are using data-driven and research-backed practices; and informing the development of the university’s writing curriculum. As one part of an ongoing cycle of writing curriculum development, the writing center provides students across the university substantive support in their ongoing writing development and provides instructors with support for integrating the teaching of writing in their classes. Through this, the writing center helps students better apply a range of writing skills in communicating their ideas effectively in their academic, professional, and personal lives.

Galen Writing Center on Moodle

GWC is set up as a course on Moodle which means it is fully online. The center is made available to all actively enrolled Galen students who then make appointments via the Moodle page .

Appointments can be made for writing assignments from any course, at any point in the writing process. This means if a student writer wants to brainstorm with a consultant, fine tune a thesis statement, clarify structure of a SWOT analysis assignment or even work on a CV, the writing center is open to assisting the writing process.

Book an appointment today by visiting the writing center course page on Moodle, or visiting the writing center at Galen’s Central Farm campus. Contact the writing center by email at writingcenter@galen.edu.bz with any questions about using the writing center.
